The
Society of Bookbinders
The society was formed in 1974 in the north-west of England,
where a small group led by John Coleman and Terry Walker conceived
the idea of a professional society. There had long been a need
for a society to represent the interests of bookbinders, book
collectors and conservators, and to provide a forum for the
exchange of information thus promoting the highest standards
of bookbinding both nationally and internationally.
The Society has grown steadily with the membership distributed
between the eight Regions and also many countries overseas.
In 1994 the Society was registered as a charity.
Aims
The Society of Bookbinders is a professional organisation
whose objects are to advance education for the public benefit
in all aspects of bookbinding in particular but not exclusively
by the collection, collation, evaluation and organised dissemination
of craft and technical information.
